The Kenya police owned up to the murder of celebrated Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif. Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso said that the GSU officers opened fire at Arshad’s car when they apparently refused to stop at a roadblock erected by police on Sunday night. Shioso said that the Police were searching for a stolen car that had a minor who had been kidnapped.
They, therefore, concluded that Arshad and Khumar his brother who was driving were the occupants of the car were the alleged kidnappers. In response, they shot at the car multiple times. One of the bullets sped past the windows and found its way to the journalist’s head killing him on the spot.
However, questions have arisen from the murder following the police statement.
- Why did police open fire targeting the windows instead of the tires?
- Why did they fire on the left side of the car where Sharif was seated instead of the whole car?
- Why did they open fire knowing fully well that there was a child in the car?
- How did they confuse a KDG 200M and a KDJ 700F?
- Why did the police open fire yet the occupants were unarmed?
- Did the police try to stop the car and then the occupants failed to comply?
- It’s said that Arshad would frequent Kwenia farm. Why did the police mistake him and the car for a carjacked one yet they were familiar with him?
