These are the sentences handed to the killers of slain human rights lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josphat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri. Evidence showed that the three were abducted on June 22 2016 after a court session, locked up in remand for a short period of time. The three bodies were discovered at the Ol Donyo Sabuk river on 1st July 2016.
Frederick Leliman
He is the policeman who had shot Josphat Mwenda and the latter had lodged a complaint at the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) against him. Leliman was sentenced to death on account of murder by Justice Jessie Lessit. “The first accused is sentenced to death on all three counts,” said Lessit. The judge also agreed that the murder was premeditated since he had a personal vendetta against Mwendwa
Stephen Cheburet
He was sentenced to 30 years in prison because he took part in the abduction.
Sylvia Ngugi
She was sentenced to 24 years in prison because she was tasked with watching the deceased persons but did not take part in the murder.
