The 2021/2022 NGO report was launched yesterday by Dr Raymond Omollo the Principal Secretary for Interior having been compiled by the NGO Co-ordination Board. These are the key highlights from the report.
272 new organizations were registered bringing the total number of NGOs to 12,162. 217 of these were national while 55 were international.
The Money
The amounts of money received by the organizations in terms of funding rose from Ksh 138.6 billion in 2020/2021 to Ksh 179.5 billion in 2021/2022 representing a 27% increase. Of these funds 28.8% were donated by affiliates of the NGOs while foreign government agencies donated 27%.
Spending
NGOs spent a total of Ksh 185.5 billion.
Ksh 118 billion was on project implementation
Ksh 49.7 billion was on personal emoluments
Ksh 18.4 billion on administration costs
Ksh 4.4 billion on tangible assets.
Human Resource
The number of employees engaged decreased in 2021/2022 by 22% to 71,096 compared to the previous year.
66,687 (94%) were stationed in Kenya while 4,409 (6%) were based out of Kenya.
NGO Compliance
The report revealed that the compliance level in terms of submission of annual reports increased to 31% in 2021/2022. In the previous year compliance was at 28%. It represents a 3% change.
