Kenya’s First Lady Rachael Ruto in partnership with religious non-profit Hands of Hope a Joyce Meyer Ministry appendage and WorldServe International Kenya and Kenya Assemblies of God Church launched the Sifa Pad and Praise Project.
The project is an initiative that saw the setting up of a sanitary pad factory that has the capacity of producing 200 sanitary pads per minute. According to the first lady’s communiqué, the pads are 100% biodegradable.
“If the factory achieves full-scale productions it means that it can produce 96,000 pieces per day. This translates to 9,600 packs of ten pads per pack a day. Further 20,000 girls will be equipped with information and life skills that will help them navigate the future,” said Mrs Ruto.
The first lady applauded and raised awareness about the importance of conserving the environment through the manufacturing of biodegradable plants and urged Kenyans to plant trees.
“Taking care of our environment involves amongst other initiatives, growing trees so that we can reduce the effects of climate change, especially in the Arid and Semi-arid areas. Planting and growing trees is one of the actions we urgently need to embark on to curb the drought we are facing. I urge us to join the Government in the National Tree Growing Restoration Campaign which aims at planting and growing 15 billion trees by 2032, with 5 billion grown by 2027. The campaign will enable us to achieve our target of 30% forest cover from the current 8.83%,” says Rachel.
The Sifa Pad Factory and Praise Project was launched in Kajiado, Kajiado County together with the Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku among other guests
