The National Integrity Alliance civil organizations have protested the recent nomination of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mr Noordin Haji to be the new director of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
NIA which comprises of the Society for International Development, Transparency International-Kenya, Inuka Ni Sisi and Mzalendo Trust, The Institute for Social Accountability (TISA), National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR). Led by Transparency International executive director Sheila Masinde, the group said Haji’s nomination has contravened chapter 6 of the constitution which provides guidelines on leadership and integrity.
Members of the alliance stormed the Public Service Commission Offices to file a petition for the removal of Haji from his current position as DPP. Their main concern is how he has unceremoniously withdrawn graft court cases against various high-profile individuals who appear to align with the government of the day.
“Our main reservations are how he has been dropping high-level corruption cases citing lack of evidence and shoddy investigations by investigators. The big question is why now and why cases that mostly relate to politically right individuals?” Abraham Misoi of Transparency International Kenya told this publication via text message.
President Ruto nominated Haji after the retirement of Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru, the outgoing NIS Director-General.
