Safaricom Foundation is the Philanthropy arm of giant telecommunication company Safaricom PLC that focuses on community development. They usually ask people to identify something that they can do in their community.
Through their initiative dubbed Ndoto Zetu Uwezo Wetu, they have funded projects worth more than Ksh 10 billion since inception in 2003. According to their data, they have funded 3,000 projects so far in all the 47 counties. They have also impacted at least 5 million lives as part of Safaricom PLC’s corporate social responsibility.
Currently, they are accepting applications for funding if your project aims at alleviating poverty and seeks to empower communities financially. They have limited their impact into three thematic areas; Health, Education and Economic Empowerment.
The foundation cites some of their success stories as equipping hospitals, building classrooms, giving poor students shoes, youths machines to run car wash and funding welding businesses.
The deadline for accepting applications is 11th August 2023. Anyone can apply whether an individual, group or organization, as long as your proposal will change lives.

- Thematic areas/Pillar – The project should revolve around three areas. They are health, education and empowerment.
- Project title
- Beneficiary institution/organization
- Applicant’s relationship with organization/institution
- Type of organization/institution – This can be a public institution, a community-based organization or a non-governmental organization.
- County
- Constituencies
- Ward
