The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji will withdraw charges against human rights defenders who were falsely accused of robbery with violence and arrested illegally by police officers. This happened during past evictions, protests, police operations and related incidents.
During a legal workshop organized by Amnesty International Kenya, the Law Society of Kenya and the Paralegal Society of Kenya, the DPP asked for the names of victims so that he can ensure that all charges against them are withdrawn. He said that they won’t be arraigned in court and urged the police department to work within the confines of the law.
The DPP also pledged to ensure that human rights cases are brought to court as he was praising AIK for ten years of consistency.
Haji was one of the guests at the legal advice workshop where Amnesty and LSK invited the members of the public to receive free legal advice on various issues. The last legal clinic was held in Nairobi at the Aga Khan Walk and also in Kibera. There were other clinics held in other towns such as Eldoret, Kisumu, Garissa, Bungoma, Nakuru, Siaya, Kilifi, and Mombasa on 10th October.
In attendance was Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu who commended the organization for mobilizing and campaigning human rights in their ten years of operations in Kenya.
