The NGO board of Kenya concluded the NGO week on the 16th of March which was held at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC). Many civil society organizations had been invited to exhibit what they do and show their focus areas.
There were 38 NGOs that had a booth and showcased their programmes, efforts and achievements at the KICC courtyard. The week concluded with a cut caking event after a very successfully planned civil society event that happens annually.
At the beginning of the week, Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i graced the event. He assured that the government would keep supporting civil societies and partnering with them at the policy level to help them deliver on their mandate. He also appreciated the 9,525 active NGOs which have helped the government deliver on its Big 4 Agenda.
Apart from civil societies such as Child Fund, Terre des Hommes, Action Aid, Islamic Relief and others, there were other commercial players such as Safaricom House Cooperative, NCBA bank and many others.
The NGOs week 2022 was organized on the theme “Celebrating NGOs Adaptation, Innovation and Resilience in a Global Pandemic.” On Monday 14th March 2022 the Annual NGO Sector Report 2020/2021 was launched by CS Dr Matiang’i. The report documents the status of the NGO sector during the year, including sector growth, distribution of NGOs, areas of operation, donor funding, sustainability and projects implemented.
In general the purpose of the NGOs week was celebrating how the civil societies helped the vulnerable populations weather the Covid-19 storm.
