The US Embassy in Nairobi has announced that there are grants to be given through its Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program. Applications are now open till June 30th 2022. Successful applicants will get anything from $10,000(Ksh 1,138,500.00) to $50,000(5,692,500.00).
Eligibility
To qualify for the grant, programs must include an American cultural element. They must also have a connection to American experts institutions or organizations. The main aim is to promote an increased understanding of US policy and perspectives.
Priority areas
The program must prioritize any of the following areas:
Rule of law, democracy and good governance. Under this category there are sub-categories such as promotion of civic participation, preventing gender-based violence, preventing violent extremism. Other sub-categories are media literacy, media independence.
The second area of priority should be to advance environmental justice and address significant health environmental economic, climate and other cumulative impacts of pollution and environmental degradation. This program should also prioritize impacting marginalized and underserved communities.
The last priority area that you should focus on should be to advance inclusive societies. This includes women and girls and members of marginalized and underserved communities.
Scope
33% of program(s) activities should take place in any of the following counties: Bungoma, Busia, Kitui, Kajiador, Turkana, Uasin Gishu. The remaining 66% should focus on big metropolitan areas such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret.
Disqualification
The following focus areas will not be considered for the grant:
- Construction programs
- Charitable or development activities
- Scientific or specific academic research
- Scholarships or tuition assistance and many others
